The 506 Sports Committee has consistently demonstrated its commitment to veteran-focused issues. The committee has raised funds totaling over $319,873 since 1996, all for the benefit of the Erie VA Medical Center. Families and friends of UE members come together at these gatherings to show their support for local veterans. Since 2008, the members have held the events annually, raising over $319,873 for the cause. The VA annual bowling competition has benefited from the team’s yearly 5K run/walks.
The Sports Committee at UE Local 506 has participated in events to bring attention to the issue of breast cancer. The National Breast Cancer Foundation has received $3,200 thanks to the committee’s efforts. UE Local 506’s Sports Committee is a stepping stone for many of the union’s current leaders. Local union official Matt McCracken holds a prominent position on the board of directors. He advocated that other UE citizens should follow their example.
