Here’s how to program an RCA universal remote if you’ve purchased one.

On the RCA Universal Remote, there are eight different RCA remote codes and nine different VCR codes. There are two separate sets of codes for cable boxes.

Check device compatibility before attempting to program an RCA universal remote with RCATV codes. Because many manufacturers use different technologies for their devices, one remote will not work with equipment from other manufacturers.
Furthermore, just because RCA manufactured your television does not guarantee that the remote RCATV codes listed here will function with it. There are several kinds of remotes (with different programming capabilities and various RCA tv codes). Furthermore, there are numerous technologies for TVs, DVD players, and other electronic devices, making universal remote control impossible.
Setup Instructions for RCA Universal Remote Codes
Turn on any home theater equipment or devices, such as a television or a Blu-ray player, that you want to configure with the RCA Universal remote.
- Check that the remote’s batteries are charged.
- Turn on any home theater equipment or devices, such as a television or a Blu-ray player, that you want to configure with the RCA Universal remote.
- Press and release the button associated with the component you’re configuring. Hit and release the TV button to program the remote to control the television. The on/off switch will illuminate and should remain illuminated.
- Next, press and hold both the component (TV / Blu-Ray / DVD) and the on/off buttons at the same time. The illuminated on/off switch will be deactivated. Then it should turn around.
- After the on/off button relights, release both buttons you are holding. It should be kept on.
- Now, on the remote, press and release the play button. If the component you’re programming doesn’t turn off after 5 seconds, keep pressing the play button every 5 seconds until it does.
- Now, hold down the reverse button and let go. Wait a few seconds and press the button every few seconds until the component turns back on.
- To save the device programming in the remote’s memory, press and release the stop button.
- Rep all of the steps for each device to be programmed.

Direct Code Entry Method for RCA Universal Remote Setup
Check that the remote’s batteries are charged.
- Turn on any home theater equipment or devices, such as a television or a Blu-ray player, that you want to configure with the RCA Universal remote.
- Press and release the button associated with the component you’re configuring. Choose your four-digit code from the list, and then enter it. Hit and release the TV button to program the remote to control the television. Enter the 4 or 5 digit code from the list, and the on/off button should light up and stay lit.
- Next, press and hold both the component (TV / Blu-Ray / DVD) and the on/off buttons at the same time. The illuminated on/off switch will be deactivated. Then it should turn around.
- After the on/off button relights, release both buttons you are holding. It should be kept on.
- Now, on the remote, press and release the play button. If the component you’re programming doesn’t turn off after 5 seconds, keep pressing the play button every 5 seconds until it does.
- Now, hold down the reverse button and let go. Wait a few seconds and press the button every few seconds until the component turns back on.
